Thanksgiving
Food, family, and gratitude worked together to create wonderful
memories during the holiday. Remember all those recipes I mentioned a few weeks
ago? I got them all done! The seafood bisque was a bit treacherous to make
(here’s a tip: when making a bisque, go ahead and get all the ingredients measured and prepped prior to starting and work quickly once you begin), but it
turned out scrumptious. The cod pieces melted in my mouth, and I’m not even a
huge seafood fan.
My favorite discovery was a tie between the pineapple cream
cheese cobbler and the honey biscuits. I’ll be making both a few more times throughout
the upcoming year, I think. They were delicious! The honey biscuits were
especially fun, because the honey taste came through so beautifully. They were
the first from-scratch biscuits I’ve ever made, and it was a fabulous recipe
for my debut. It was simple and easy to follow while creating a lovely scent in
my home while they were baking.

Honey Biscuits
Compliments
of the Taste of Home: Christmas (2013)
recipe book.
Note: The
parenthetical inserts are mine, not the cookbook’s.
Time: 30
minutes
Makes: 1
dozen
Ingredients:
2 cups
all-purpose flour
½ cup sugar
3 tsp baking
powder
½ tsp salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
(I used Silk Almond Milk)
¼ cup
butter, melted
¼ cup honey
Directions:
1. In a
large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. In a small bowl,
combine the egg, milk butter, and honey. Stir into dry ingredients just until
moistened.
2. Fill
greased or paper-lined muffin cups three-fourths full. Bake at 400 degrees for
15-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
Remove from pan to a wire rack (I moved them directly to a glass bowl for
serving, and it worked great). Serve warm.
My parents, sister, and I spent Thanksgiving eating our
feast and getting a start on our Christmas movies in a marathon. It’s so fun to
pull out the Christmas movies and take turns choosing which one to watch. We might be squeezing in more throughout December as we each have time to spare between
jobs and writing and other responsibilities. A few of my favorites this season
are White Christmas, Arthur Christmas, and Remember the Night.
If you need more
recommendations, I’m happy to share, so ask away in the comments. And please
share which Christmas movies are your
favorites this year.
The leftovers disappeared quicker than usual, thanks to a
couple of family friends that spent time with us over the weekend. Swapping
stories and seeing movies at the theater with these friends, as well as eating the
remains of the Thanksgiving feast, enhanced an already brilliant holiday.
How did you spend Thanksgiving?
What is your favorite recipe for this time of the year?
