Back to School Reading Challenge

Another school year has begun.

Do you have kids in school?

My tutoring work begins tomorrow (funny, I don't currently have students on Mondays, which is really odd for me), and I'm looking forward to it. My house is nearly too quiet with no youthful voices chirping about adventures and friends and dreams. To be able to help these amazing children with their studies and learning how to maneuver through life is a complete blessing and a wonderful challenge. I consider myself blessed each year I have the privilege to work in this capacity.

In thinking about work and school and education, I thought it would be fun to have a reading challenge inspired by these things. So how about...

Here are the three categories that are acceptable for this month's challenge:

Biography/Autobiography

Books written about a historical figure, or even a present-day person, are pretty interesting, I think. I've enjoyed books about Amy Carmichael, John Newton, and other missionaries, as well as sports icons and movie actors.

Memoir

A memoir is a type of autobiography that features memories of the author's life. From those I've read, I've learned that they don't usually focus on the full life of the author but rather a particular grouping of memories, though occasionally the other aspects of the author's life will be included or summed up. I've enjoyed memoirs by Yeonmi Park, Asha Miro, and Carol Burnett.

Non-fiction

This is a huge genre that includes histories, textbooks, Bible studies, self-help books, and many, many others. I've enjoyed learning about Green Berets, firemen, and Ireland, as well as reading Bible studies by Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, and Marlo Schalesky.

What non-fiction, memoir, biography, or autobiography books have you already enjoyed?

Which ones are you reading this month?

Which non-fiction authors are your favorites?

Join the conversation.
I love chatting with you.

This is the final week for August's Around the World challenge.

Okay, either you are just really good, or someone's been telling you what I have on my to-read shelf. :P

And just so you know, I read Christmas books in December. ;)

Rebekah, God must be working behind-the-scenes, because I have had my list of challenges prepared since last November. I love it when a plan comes together! (to borrow a line from The A-Team movie)

Andrea,
I finished "This Life I Live" by Rory Feek. I'm not sure I'll get to another one this month because I need to edit a manuscript.

I pray you have a very blessed day!

Great job, Faith! I've heard Praying for Your Future Husband is worth reading, but I haven't gotten to it yet. Would you recommend it?

Okay, here's my list for September.
"At Ease" by Mike Beuo (This is a Reminisce book)
"Entebbe" by Iddo Netanyahu
"O Canada!" by Karla Akins
"Peter the Great" by Nina Brown Baker
"Kisses from Katie" by Katie Davis
I also listened to "Theodore Roosevelt: An American Original" by Janet & Geoff Benge

I was hoping to get another book or two read, but life was too busy. :)

Fantastic work, Rebekah! I hope you learned some great nuggets of truth through all that reading.
